Turn Your LinkedIn DMs into Clients
Ready to monetize your LinkedIn? Here's the strategy I use to sign up high-ticket clients (so you can, too).
A client business is the fastest way to monetize on LinkedIn.
But here’s the problem:
You have a great service…but you’re not sure how to win clients on social.
Today I’m sharing the LinkedIn DM strategy that helps me consistently:
Get discovery calls
Fill up my sales pipeline
Win high-ticket B2C clients
This is a mini-masterclass from my private community Clients & Capital.
Let’s dive in.
There are 4 ways to win clients.
Outreach: Reach out to them with a DM, email, or phone call
Inbound: Attract them with a LinkedIn post, podcast, or piece of content
Advertise: Get in front of a targeted audience with Ads, newsletter sponsors
Referrals: Ask for a referral from friends, family, or current clients
The best approach will always be referrals.
My first financial planning client was my Mom
Then my best friend
Then his brother
Then his Dad
The next fastest and lowest-cost approach is outreach.
LinkedIn is your personal landing page.
If you start reaching out to your ideal clients or investors with targeted DMs every day, the first thing your prospect will do is check out your profile.
Before you start reaching out to prospects, optimize your LinkedIn profile to:
Speak directly to your prospects
Show them social proof
Show them case studies
Prove you deserve a reply
Who needs a DM outreach strategy?
In my opinion, everyone should be prospecting with outreach as a core sales strategy.
But…some entrepreneurs NEED outreach.
If you have less than 10,000 followers
If you have less than a year in business
If you have less than 100 pieces of content
If you have less than $100,000 in total sales
If you have fewer than 5 clients or investors
Over time, an audience that knows, likes, and trusts you will attract more inbound leads than you can handle.
But that takes 6-12+ months to build.
Getting inbound leads from your personal brand is a slow, compounding drip.
Outreach gets you in front of your ideal prospects TODAY.
Cold vs Warm Outreach
Cold Outreach = Prospects Who’ve Never Heard of You
Warm Outreach = Prospects with At Least 1 Interaction
Someone who liked your post
Someone who viewed your profile
Someone who engaged on your comments
Someone who has a real mutual connection
Today we’re focusing on warm outreach strategies because this is the fastest strategy to win your first or next client on social media.
Why do 99% of people suck at outreach?
Stop pitching your services in the DMs!!!
People will never read a giant pitchslap wall of text.
If you wouldn’t say it IRL, don’t say it in a DM.
This is a great way to get flagged as Spam on LinkedIn and get your account suspended.
❌ Don’t go for a shotgun blast of 100 messages a day like this.
✅ Instead, go for 20 quality messages a day that are slightly personalized and sound more human, less Ai selling robot.
Where are your prospects hiding?
Every day I block 60 minutes for prospecting.
If you are regularly publishing content and commenting on larger accounts, you will start to find “Warm Leads” in these places:
Profile views
Engaged on your posts
Back and forth comments
Mutual connections (real ones)
Every day, check who has viewed your profile. You need LinkedIn premium for this.
What to look for:
Are they your ideal prospect?
What does their profile say (visit it)?
Are they a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd connection?
How to DM Warm Leads
If they are a good prospect who is 2nd or 3rd connection:
“Hey FNAME, thanks for checking out my profile. Thought it made sense to reach out and connect”
If they are a good prospect and 1st connection:
“Hey FNAME, thanks for connecting. How are things going with [insert their business]?”
Even better if you slightly personalize the message.
Get specific in your message
“I’m a financial planner for SaaS Account Execs. thought it made sense to reach out.”
The goal is to start a conversation with your ideal prospect.
How to Follow Up
The mistake people make with outreach: They don’t follow up.
At the very least have a:
Connection request message (#1)
Follow up message (1-2 days later)
Last ditch effort message (1-2 days later)
If you are trying to reach out to:
CEOs of companies
High-net-worth investors
Entrepreneurs or influencers
Guess what?
These people are all super busy and have loads of DMs in their inboxes.
You need to follow up! The worst that can happen is someone says NO and you have clarity.
How to Schedule Calls
Have Calendly set up or suggest 2 times and collect their email to schedule.
Create the least amount of friction possible.
Don’t send them a deck
Don’t give them 5 time options
Don’t call it a “Demo” call
Get them on your calendar as smoothly as possible.
Again, the goal is not to sell. The goal is to get on a call with your ideal prospect.
There will be plenty of time to talk about what you do when they inevitably ask during the call.
20 Warm Outreach DMs a Day
Make your prospecting systematic.
Put 1 hour in your calendar for this every day.
Send 20 warm outreach messages every day
Aim for 4-5 calls a week with your ICP
Create a system for following up
Step 1: Outreach
Step 2: Discovery Call
Step 3: Schedule Follow Up
Step 4: Make a personalized proposal
Step 5: Repeat, automate, and delegate (where possible)
