How to Choose a Niche On LinkedIn
Using PQR2 Method and ChatGPT to create LinkedIn content that attracts your dream clients
Hey Substack Friends,
Today is a deep dive post sharing the strategy that helped me choose a profitable niche and earn six figures with a client business on LinkedIn.
What you’ll learn in this Deep Dive:
How to choose your niche
How to attract clients with PQR2
How to use AI to generate content ideas
Let's dive in.
Why do niche creators earn 2X more?
Your niche is the competitive advantage that helps you stand out in a sea of "commodity creators" on LinkedIn.
Choosing a niche allows you to:
Create targeted offers
Charge higher prices
Avoid competition
Make more money with fewer clients, that's the game.
How to choose your niche
What are 2-3 topics you could talk about for hours?
What kind of content do you love consuming?
What topic do you know better than 99% of people?
When I was searching for the perfect niche, I looked at my career and saw a decade working in finance, wealth management, and banking.
I also looked at what I was actually interested in to make my content creation substainable.
My skills and interests aligned at:
Finance
Entrepreneurship
Personal development
Now I write for founders in finance and real estate.
I charge 4-5x more than average ghostwriters who write for any ol’ founder.
Choose your niche wisely.
How to define your ideal client
Your ICP = Your Ideal Client Profile
This is the person (prospect) you feel most equipped and excited to work with.
Everything on your LinkedIn profile and posts should speak directly to this person.
Most people skip the step of defining their ICP…but not you.
It’s important to know the demographics of your ICP:
Age
Income
Where they live
Where they work
But it’s more important to know the psychographics of your ICP.
You can use the PQR2 method to better understand the ideal client you want to attract before optimizing your LinkedIn profile for more sales.
What is the PQR2 Method?
Problems
Questions
Roadblocks
Results
What are your ICP’s top 3 problems?
What are your ICP’s top 3 questions?
What are your ICP’s top 3 roadblocks to buying from you?
What are your ICP’s top 3 results they are seeking?
These are all related to the service you provide.
Example: if you are a financial advisor, prospects don’t care about “comprehensive holistic financial planning”
Not as much as they care about the real-life benefits of your service.
Increased lifestyle
Security and peace of mind
Avoid surprise tax bills from the IRS
Maximizing their wealth over time
Reaching their goals as fast as possible
Quitting a job that makes them burn out (freedom)
People only buy for a few reasons:
Saving time
Saving money
Making more money
Avoiding stress and pain
Skip the pitch-slap DMs with giant walls of text that will never get read.
Save the pitch for after you’ve gotten a prospect on a discovery call and they ask “tell me more about your services”
Instead, speak directly to your Prospects’ PQR2.
Their problems
Their questions
Their roadblocks
Their desired results
Here are 4 ways to learn about your ideal client's Problems, Questions, Roadblocks, and Results.
1. Listen to your current clients
Why do they work with you?
What questions come up again and again on calls?
What are the biggest reasons they avoid taking action?
What results do all of them want?
Chances are, the answers are in front of you.
Action item: Create a short typeform and send it to all of your current and past clients. Make it short and sweet. Ask them what their PQR2 is in 4-5 questions. You can also use this for qualifying your prospects as they apply for your offer.
2. Study your LinkedIn comments and DMs
DMs are data.
Comments are data.
Discovery calls are data.
Onboarding calls are data.
What are people saying on your most popular posts?
What are people DMing you after a post they saw?
Action item: Block time in your calendar each week to search for direct feedback from your prospects.
3. Find the most googled answers on Answer the Public
